This Florida Community Celebrates History!

Just like the surrounding area, Ormond Beach was originally inhabited by the Timucuan Indians.

But then, around 1643, Quakers settled in the area.

By 1708, the Spaniards inhabited the area and laid claim until British control. The community was named for James Ormond I, an Anglo-Irish-Scottish sea captain commissioned by King Ferdinand VII of Spain.

Over the centuries, this community continued to grow, in part because of its hard, white beach. In fact, Ormond became a popular place for the wealthy looking for a reprieve from daily living. The area saw a tourist boom as a result.
