The History of Daytona Beach
This community was originally inhabited by the indigenous Timucuan Indians who lived in fortified villages.
Europeans would ultimately settle the area in the 1800s. In 1926, the separate towns of Daytona, Daytona Beach, Kingston and Seabreeze merged to form “Daytona Beach.” Later, it would be dubbed “The World’s Most Famous Beach.”
Modern Day Daytona Beach
This community is well-known today for its beaches, which are hard packed enough where motorized vehicles can drive over them in restricted areas. As such, this community has become a bit of a mecca for motor sports.
The city is also the headquarters of NASCAR as well as the Grand American Road Racing Association.
Meanwhile, this community hosts a number of large groups from out-of-town each year, including Speedweeks in early February as well as the NASCAR Coke Zero 400 Race in July and Bike Week in early March.
Biketoberfest in late October as well as the Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona endurance race in January are also quite popular.
